So, we have spent our first day in our nation's capital, Washington DC. We've both been here before, but it's been awhile and Andy had never been to any of the Smithsonian museums. We left our little apartment and our unknowing cat at 6:00 AM and made pretty good time, after sitting in plenty of rainy Long Island traffic. After checking into our hotel, we headed into downtown DC.
Luckily, the weather was clear and sunny because we spent a ton of time walking around outside. We also checked out the National Museum of American History and, my favorite, the Museum of Air & Space. Everything was packed because it seems to be spring break in the area, but we made it out alive.
Exciting news: we discovered a new food - the half-smoke. It's basically a hot dog with a kick, but we were starving and intrigued, so we have rave reviews.
After museum-ing, we walked around, visiting the Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial, Capitol building and the White House. We also headed to Ford's Theater, where we were unfortunately told tickets are really hard to get for the tour and also purchased the gift for our very first Facebook photo winner - congratulations Kerri!
Needless to say, we are exhausted, so it's off to bed...goodnight!
