Hi! We're heading off on a 40-day road trip across the great USA, starting Friday, April 9, 2010. Here, we hope to capture all the times - good, bad and ugly - to share with friends and family and to have as a record of what we hope to be an amazing adventure.

We plan to update every day or two and would love to hear from you - we'll miss you, you know.

Also, feel free to play Where In North America Are The LaurAndy's? on Facebook to win awesome prizes (no cash, just prizes...and probably pretty chintzy ones, too...we're unemployed at the moment.)

See you along the road!

Day 2...Virginia

We are currently in the lovely home of our dear friend Reggie (Jessica, if you will)...

Today we had a full day of sight-seeing.  We decided to sleep in a little bit and wound up leaving our hotel room around 10:30 or so.  Our first stop was actually Radio Shack - it seems our XM radio makes a terrible noise whenever we accelerate...so, it's been a problem.  Unfortunately, this particular "Shack," as they like to call themselves now, didn't sell the thing we need to stop the problem...the guy working there actually admitted having gone to another store to purchase it :(

So, we headed out to Mount Vernon, no XM fix, and visited George Washington's home.  It was beautiful and completely worth the visit.  They give out timed guided house tour tickets, which we didn't have time to wait for, so we just went at it on our own, and had a great time.  It was a gorgeous, 70 degree day.

From there, we headed to Fredricksburg, VA, where we walked through an adorable historic main street area and then visited the battlefield, which is full of fascinating information.  We also had a surprisingly cheap lunch at a place called Sammy T's - good stuff if you're ever in the area.  The one thing was not realizing how many restaurants still allow smoking, but this one has two separate locations for that reason.

Around 3:30, we headed down to Virginia Beach to visit Reggie!  We finally made it around 6:00 PM.  She even bought beer for our visit, something she never does :)  After a delicious Cherry Wheat, we went to Waterman's for some waterfront food and famous Orange Crush drinks.  Yum.  We even had hush puppies for the first time...delicious.  After dinner, we checked out a local brewery, Gordon Biersch - loved the hefeweizen.  We're now back at Reggie's, hanging out with Killian and gettting ready for bed.  We're getting some brunch tomorrow morning and then heading to Charleston in the afternoon.
