Hi! We're heading off on a 40-day road trip across the great USA, starting Friday, April 9, 2010. Here, we hope to capture all the times - good, bad and ugly - to share with friends and family and to have as a record of what we hope to be an amazing adventure.

We plan to update every day or two and would love to hear from you - we'll miss you, you know.

Also, feel free to play Where In North America Are The LaurAndy's? on Facebook to win awesome prizes (no cash, just prizes...and probably pretty chintzy ones, too...we're unemployed at the moment.)

See you along the road!

Day 5...Charleston/Savannah

This morning we woke up and drove out of Charleston, south to the Magnolia Plantation house and gardens.  We signed up for an 11:00 AM nature boat tour, so we spent about 45 minutes wandering through the gardens before getting on our little boat.  The tour took us through the marsh surrounding the grounds, where we saw a bunch of different types of birds, as well as six alligators, which was what I was hoping for.  They are really crazy animals...it is amazing they still exist.  Our guide said they don't even know how long alligators live, since they've never found one on the grounds that had died of natural causes.  After the tour we got some photos of the house, took a trip through the hedge maze and made a brief visit to the scary petting zoo - basically random animals just loose hanging out around this fenced-in area.  I'm sure they were all cool, but it just seemed like something that should have been supervised.

From there, we headed south to Savannah, right inside Georgia.  Savannah is a beautiful little historic city on a river.  It has a completely different feel from Charleston, which I think we found odd - we kind of expected them to be more alike.

It's a bit late and we still have to figure out what we're going to do with our remaining time here tomorrow - we are off to Atlanta in the afternoon, so we don't have much time left in Savannah - so, more about Savannah later!
